“Mana Lala’s Journey: Defeated Thrombotic Stroke in Tribal Terrain”
One day in July, while working on his farm at Ghated, a 50-year-old farmer called Mana Lala suffered an undiagnosed thrombotic stroke. Even though he had a sudden stroke which made him dizzy and caused paralysis on the left side of his body, Mana LaLa did not go for medical treatment immediately; rather he decided to use traditional remedies thereby compromising the family’s future to save his own life.
Mana Lala is a 50-year-old man who lives in the catchment area of the village of Ghated. In July, while farming, he experienced a sudden episode of vertigo followed by a loss of sensation and motor functions. This resulted in paralysis of his left upper and lower limbs.
Despite his ailment, he refrained from seeking medical attention because his family initially believed that it was due to a sorcerous incident. As a result, he depended on traditional healing techniques and mortgaged his land to cover the associated expenses. Additionally, he sacrificed his children’s education to save money. Health workers and SKs provided counsel on treatment options, including physiotherapy facilities available at the clinic while visiting his residence.
On October 18, 2022, Mana Lala visited the clinic with his elder daughter. He appeared anxious and frustrated, and the staff at the clinic noticed that he had difficulty walking and performing motor functions with his left upper and lower limbs. To assist him, we organized a physiotherapy session for him. During the session, he mentioned that he was experiencing difficulty using his left side and provided his medical history.
He emphasized his previous role as the main earner for his family, which includes five children. After a thorough examination, the clinic’s physicians determined that there were no signs of fainting and that the vertigo episode was a symptom of an undiagnosed thrombotic stroke. As a result, the doctors suggested some lab tests to look into the matter, and Mana Lala started receiving preventive and rehabilitative stroke treatments.
The medical team continued to visit his home for the next one and a half months and kept a check on his progress. With time, Mana Lala’s health and self-assurance improved. He promised to continue his treatment and exercises to make the most of his recovery.
