“Shadow to Summit: Mukesh’s POTT’S Spine Tuberculosis Fight”
It is an exceptional odyssey with Mukesh in “From the Shadows to the Summit” where he struggles gallantly against POTT’S Spine tuberculosis. Nevertheless, through tenacity and resolve, Mukesh beats the odds, Courageously triumphing over POTT’S Spine tuberculosis. This exciting narrative lets you feel his victory for yourself.
Mukesh, a 13-year-old resident of the Uda hamlet in Manpur, India, experienced the sudden inability to walk in April 2022. Despite seeking traditional folk healing for his condition, including visits to a local practitioner, Mukesh’s condition remained unchanged even after two months. He was bedridden and unable to walk independently.
On July 12, 2022, Mukesh was brought to the clinic in Manpur by his brother, accompanied by their mother. During our shift at the clinic, we observed that Mukesh’s family members were gravely concerned about his condition. Upon inquiring about his medical history, they revealed that Mukesh had developed a chest deformity at the age of four, which progressed over time. At the age of 10, he developed atrophy in his bilateral lower limbs, leading to weakness and difficulty in ambulation. Two months ago, he lost the ability to walk independently, after which his family had exhausted all available treatment options and had come to the clinic as a last resort.
Following an examination, we observed that Mukesh had a pigeon chest with a kyphoscoliotic posture and atrophied bilateral lower extremities. We inquired whether anyone in his family had undergone a six-month course of ATT due to occupational hazards, but they denied any such history. A family member or a neighbor might have undergone the treatment. After consulting with a physician, we diagnosed Mukesh with POTT’s Spine extrapulmonary Tuberculosis. We commenced his ATT( Anti-tuberculosis Treatment) with adjusted doses of medication and provided physiotherapy intervention with home-based exercises.
In light of Mukesh’s geographical location outside our catchment area, we planned regular follow-ups with the aid of health workers. After two months of continuous medication and physiotherapy, Mukesh could stand and walk with support from a walking stick. His mother and elder brother were overjoyed to see him return to his normal life and expressed gratitude for the positive effects of physiotherapy. We continue to monitor Mukesh’s progress through ongoing ATT( Anti-Tuberculosis Treatment) and physiotherapy interventions, to improve his quality of life.
